Junior CV template: how to show one to three years of experience

7 min read

A junior CV template, for anyone one to three years into work, flips the order of a graduate one: experience moves to the top, each achievement comes with its tool and its result, and education fits in one line. Here is the template in Word, ready for ATS filters, how to fill in each part and how to tailor it to each job.

The Word template, and why it beats the pretty CV

A free Word file: page one is the template to fill in, page two a filled-in example and page three, how to tailor it. It is built for juniors. If you have not worked yet, the graduate CV template suits you better, and with more than three years, the experienced CV template.

The example is Oliver, a data analyst with two years at an online retailer. In Canva, in two columns with skill bars and education on top, his CV looks pretty; in this template, plain, and it is the one you would call: same person, same jobs, what changes is how it is told.

There is a technical reason too: ATS filters, the systems that receive your CV when you apply. They pull out the text and let recruiters search with the words of their ad. If they cannot read you or you lack those words, you do not show up, and the pretty one's two columns come out mixed. Getting through takes three things:

That they can read you

One page, one column, ordinary headings and no icons, tables or bars. This template already does that.

That each part says what they look for

How you write the profile, the experience and the rest. That is what comes below.

That it is written for that job

Choosing what goes first for each job: the step almost nobody takes, and the most important.

At the top: the profile, what you are today

It is the two lines at the top, the first thing anyone reads. With experience you no longer talk about what you studied but about what you do, and they have three jobs:

What you are today

Your role the way job ads say it: “Data Analyst”, not your company's in-house title.

How long, and where

“Two years in e-commerce” places you in half a line.

What you are genuinely good at

With the role's tools written as the ad writes them, which is how recruiters search. “SQL and Power BI” can be checked; “strong analytical skills” cannot.

What to leave out

“Proactive team player, eager to learn.” Everybody writes it and nobody searches for it.

In the example: “Data analyst with two years in e-commerce. I run the sales, stock and returns reporting for the whole company in SQL and Power BI, and what I do best is finding where the data shows money leaking out.”

The profile changes most from job to job, and BeSuix rewrites it for each one. Try it free, no card needed.

Right below: experience, and how to write each achievement

With a year or two of work, experience is already what matters most, so it goes above education:

Your current job first

Then the one before, from newest to oldest. An internship counts as one more role.

A context line if nobody knows the company

What it does and how big it is: “Online furniture and homeware retailer with 60 staff”. Without it, “Hearth & Oak” tells the reader nothing.

But what makes the difference is how you write each bullet: what you did, with which tool and what changed. Write the tool as the ad does: it is what a recruiter searches for in the ATS. Before and after:

A report

Not “responsible for the weekly sales report”. Instead: “automated the weekly sales report in Power BI, cutting it from a full day's work to fifteen minutes”.

A finding

Not “returns analysis”. Instead: “found with SQL that 30% of returns came from four products with the wrong dimensions on the website; once fixed, returns fell 18% in three months”.

One condition: the numbers have to be true. An invented one collapses at the first interview question, and an AI will add one if you let it.

Can't get them to read like this? BeSuix asks what you did and writes each bullet with its result, using only what is true. Free to try.

At the bottom: education in one line, and all on one page

The rest goes at the end and takes little room: every line that does not show what you do takes space from one that does.

Education, in one line

Degree, university and years: “BSc (Hons) Economics, University of Manchester”. Your dissertation and your summer job have done their job; now they take up room.

Courses, under their official name

“Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)”, not “Power BI course”: that is what gets searched for.

Tools and languages, in words

“SQL, Power BI, Excel (Power Query)” and “Spanish: B2”. No skill bars: 90% in Excel tells nobody anything, and a bar is not text an ATS can read.

One page, one column

No fancy design, icons or side panel: that way the person and the ATS can both read you.

What matters most: tailoring it to each job

With all this your CV is well made, but a template is the base, not the CV you send. With two years you already have more to tell than fits, so tailoring it means choosing what goes first. Here is how Oliver's changes for three jobs:

Data Analyst (BI)

It asks for Power BI, SQL and dashboards. The template's profile already fits: the Power BI report automation moves to the top, the stock dashboard right after it, and the PL-300 in view.

E-commerce Analyst

It asks for sales, returns and Google Analytics 4. The returns finding goes first, GA4 moves to the front of his tools and the profile reads: “Data analyst with two years at an online retailer: I found with SQL that 30% of returns came from four products with the wrong dimensions, and once fixed, returns fell 18%.”

Junior Finance Analyst

It asks for Excel, budgets and margins. The finance internship stops being filler: it keeps both bullets, Excel and Power Query go first, and the profile reads: “Data analyst with an Economics degree: I reconciled six bakeries' costs against budget in Excel, and today I run a whole company's sales reporting.”

All three are true: what changes is what goes first and in which words, and nothing you have never touched goes in. By hand it takes about twenty minutes per job, so almost nobody does it.

Which is why BeSuix exists

Tailoring by hand pays most and is what nobody feels like doing, and ChatGPT has a basic problem: it does not know you, so it fills the gaps with stock phrases. BeSuix does the process for you:

It gets to know you once

You upload this template filled in (or your CV) and Iris, its AI, asks about what is missing. Once, for every job.

It tells you if the job is worth it

You paste a job ad and it tells you honestly how well you fit and what is missing.

It asks about that job

If the job asks for something you might have, it asks you before writing.

It writes the CV for it

A one-column PDF an ATS can read, tailored to that job and with nothing invented.

Fill in the template once and let BeSuix tailor it to every job. Try it free, no card needed.

Frequently asked questions

What goes first on a CV, education or experience?

After a year or more of real work, experience. Education moves to the end, in one line.

How long should a junior CV be?

One page. With one to three years everything that matters fits, and what does not is what counts least for that job.

What if I was promoted at the same company?

The company once, with each role underneath and its own dates, the current one on top. The promotion shows at a glance.

Will this template get through ATS filters?

It is built so an ATS reads it cleanly: one column, real text, no tables. Whether you show up depends on what you write and on using the job ad's words.

Can I open the template in Google Docs?

Yes. It is an ordinary Word file with no tables or text boxes. To send it, export it to PDF and check the text can be selected.
